On the Justice of Bestowing Flowers (or other living things) as Gifts

Essay to follow.

Probably.

(Edit, 7 months later) Well... while it's a nice gesture (I certainly love living things), it's not entirely fair. The flower (for example) may be given as a symbol of a friendship to grow and blossom. The flower may be left on top of luggage that others unpacked. The flower may be thrown aside (it appears nothing special, drowning in a bag of air) and trampled(?). And then what? What of the friendship?

It, too, drowned in a bag of air on the side of the road.
